Tucson Marijuana Bust Nets $1 Million In Pot

Resulting in a tip from a neighboring business, police stormed a Tucson warehouse last weekend resulting in 5 arrests as well as the seizure of weapons, body armor, and about $1 million in marijuana.

According to the Arizona Daily Star, police received a call last Saturday night reporting that several cars had pulled around the back of a warehouse located on  Dragoon Street near I-10. The caller told police that several men in body armor and weapons were outside of the building.

Upon arrival, the police held those outside of the building and raised the warehouse where they found 2 additional suspects.

Inside, police found several guns, body armor and about 2,000 of marijuana.

In total, 5 men were arrested: 27 yr. old Johnny Leon-Beltran, 31 yr. old Luis Osuna-Badilla, 29 yr. old Manuel Pacheco-Castillo, 23 yr. old Luis A. Ramirez-Biebrich, and 21 yr. old Juan. F. Torres-Obeso. The men are facing a variety of charges including possession of marijuana, possession of marijuana for sale, marijuana to transport for sale and conspiracy.

The Star reports that weapon charges have not been filed as police try to determine which of the suspects handled the weapons. These charges will likely follow.

Serious drug charges like these typically carry pretty lengthy prison sentences. The sentence these men will face if convicted depends on many factors, including their criminal history, and the amount they are accused of handling.

In addition, if they are charged with weapons offenses, that potential sentence will only grow.

Although possession for sale is a serious drug crime, possession itself can also be quite serious. If you are caught with less than 2 pounds of marijuana, you could still be facing felony charges and a potential prison sentence.

Deferred prosecution is one alternative that is an option for some first time offenders. A deferred prosecution is where you, the defendant, serve a period of probation before going to trial. If successful, the charges are dropped.
