AZ Warehouse Worker Accused of $400,000 Sunglasses Theft
Felony theft charges in Arizona result from a warehouse sting of a criminal stolen property operation. A 33 year old Phoenix man is facing charges of felony theft and felony trafficking of stolen property this week. Gojko Pivac was arrested at work, a Scottsdale warehouse near Loop 101 and Frank Lloyd Wright Blvd.
The accusations against Pivac involve him stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars in designer sunglasses from his warehouse employer. The employer reportedly called officials a few months back to reported large amounts of property missing from their Scottsdale warehouse.
According to the Arizona Republic, Pivac is accused of taking the sunglasses home and reselling them online to people across the country. The company had noticed their sunglasses being sold on ebay and assisted the police in tracking the goods.
The police reportedly worked with ebay and the U.S. Postal Service to track where the packages were coming from. This is what led to the discovery of Pivac. Upon searching his home, police were led to a storage garage where they located more than 1,000 pairs of the stolen glasses.
Depending on how the prosecutor in this case plans on charging Pivac, he could be facing a very long time behind bars. The charges you face for theft depend on the value of the goods in question. Theft of over $25,000 is considered a Class 2 felony and is typically punishable by 5 years in prison for a first time offender.
However, Pivac faces additional charges for trafficking the stolen goods. Because he stole from his employer, the charges could be filed as embezzlement as well.
Whether accused of taking some clothing from the mall or stealing thousands from your employer, facing theft charges is nerve wracking. If convicted you must deal with revealing that conviction on future job applications, potentially hurting your chances at gainful employment.
A criminal conviction is far more serious than just fines and a slap on the wrist; it can change your life forever.
