$1M in Liquid Meth Found In Windshield Wiper Fluid Tank

Drug smugglers will put drugs anywhere they can. According to this short article from the Associated Press, a California man was stopped at the Arizona/Mexican border with liquid methamphetamine filling his windshield wiper fluid tank. The 13 pounds of meth is valued at over $1 million.

The man was attempting to enter Arizona from Mexico but was turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents when the discovery was made. It’s unclear what charges the man will face although it is likely he will be looking at some serious time, whether in the State or Federal system.

Serious drug offenses like trafficking and distributing carry serious penalties. One of the most common serious drug offenses is possession with intent to sell. Unlike other states, Arizona determines your intent simply by the amount of controlled substance you were caught with.

So, for instance, if you were caught in possession of 9 or more grams of methamphetamines, you will be charged with possession with intent to sell. That “threshold” amount varies depending on the drug you are caught with.

Common threshold amounts include more than 9 grams of cocaine, 750 mg of crack cocaine, 1 gram of heroin, and 4 grams of PCP. Once you go over this threshold amount your charge changes from possession to possession with intent to sell.

The sentence you face for an offense like this depends on the substance you are caught with. If it is a “dangerous drug” you will face a Class 5 felony and up to 18 months in prison. If this dangerous drug is meth, your sentence cannot be suspended. This simply means that you will not be granted probation in lieu of this prison sentence.

If the drug you are caught with is considered a narcotic, like cocaine, the charge is a Class 2 felony which carries up to 5 years in prison.

Facing any sort of drug charges can be quite sobering. Whether you had marijuana or cocaine on you, you’re likely frightened of the potential outcome in court. Put your mind at ease by entrusting your case to an experienced defense attorney.
